The Area Guide

Everything worth
leaving the property for.

We could understand if you never left the deck. But when you do, the Northern Catskills reward the drive — here is where we send the people we love.

A living guide. We update this as places open, change, and earn their spot. Distances are rough drive times from the property. Always worth a quick call ahead in the off-season — mountain hours can be unpredictable.

Eat & Drink

◉Fellow

Modern, seasonal dining that has become one of the area's standouts. Thoughtful plates, a considered wine list, the kind of dinner worth booking ahead for.
Reserve in advance on weekends — it fills up.

◉Jägerberg Beer Hall & Alpine Tavern

Alpine fare, a deep beer and wine selection, and a convivial mountain-tavern energy in Hunter. Great for a group après a hike or a ski day.
The big shared tables are ideal for a full house from Le Sommet.

◉Catskill Mountain Country Store

A beloved Windham institution for hearty breakfast and provisions. The spot to grab a proper morning meal — or stock the kitchen on the way in.
Go early on weekends; the breakfast line is real and worth it.

◉Millrock Restaurant

Refined small plates and a strong wine program in Windham — a slightly dressier option when you want to make a night of it.

Hike & Explore

04 spots

◉Kaaterskill Falls

One of the most famous waterfalls in the East — a 260-foot, two-tiered cascade that's been drawing painters and wanderers for two centuries. The viewing platform makes it accessible; the trail down rewards the effort.
Go early to beat crowds and parking. Trails can be slick — proper shoes.

◉Windham High Peak

A roughly 6.6-mile round trip climbing to one of the Catskill high peaks, with big summit views and a beautiful spruce-fir stretch near the top. A satisfying half-day on the trail.
The out-and-back from Peck Road is the most straightforward route.

◉Colgate Lake

A quiet, scenic spot for an easy walk, a swim in summer, or just a still moment by the water with mountains reflected back at you. Low effort, high reward.
Bring a picnic from Le Sommet's kitchen — there's no concession.

◉Mountain Top Arboretum

Curated gardens and gentle wetland walks across the ridge in Tannersville — a peaceful, beautiful wander that's a lovely contrast to the bigger summit hikes.

Do & See

04 outings

◉Windham Mountain Club

Skiing and snowboarding in winter, a mountain bike park and activities in the warmer months. The closer of the two big ski mountains and a reliable day out year-round.
In winter, midweek lift lines are a fraction of the weekend.

◉Hunter Mountain

A Catskills icon — major skiing in winter, plus a scenic skyride and a fire tower with sweeping views in season. Jägerberg and other Hunter spots are right there for after.

◉The Vineyard at Windham

Tastings with a mountain-view backdrop — an easygoing afternoon stop, especially in the warmer months when you can sit outside.

◉St. John the Baptist Church

A remarkable hand-carved wooden church right in Jewett — a quiet, unexpected piece of craftsmanship and history worth the short detour.

The Catskills by Season

Spring

Waterfalls run their fullest, trails green up, and the crowds haven't arrived yet. The quiet sweet spot.

Summer

Swimming holes, long dinners on the deck, vineyard afternoons, and the fire pit every single night.

Autumn

The main event. The foliage here is world-class — book early, the leaf-peeping weekends go fast.

Winter

Skiing minutes away, the sauna and spa at their most magical, snow on the ridge, fire roaring inside.
